3D hand casts are created using alginate which is 99% natural ingredients, including seaweed which creates the maximum amount of detail for each cast.
When mixed, the alginate has a cold pink porridge consistency which will turn white as it begins to set into a soft rubber like material. Children often find this process exciting as they put their hand into the solution and expect it to come out messy and wet. They are often shocked to find their hand come out clean and dry, after only 3 minutes.
Due to the short waiting time, and the need to be relatively still, I recommend that this type of casting is only for children aged 4 years and above, however this is entirely dependant on each child.
Any movement will result in a poor casting and there will be an additional charge if the impression process has to be repeated.
Short nails are preferred as false nails can cause a lot of problems to your actual cast.
Stone cast plaster is extremely strong however long nails on your cast may break whist removing the cast from the alginate mould.
Should this happen, there are options however there may be an additional charge.
2D hand cast are created using a special casting dough.
The joy of using this method is that the material is reusable, and perfect for children who may struggle to sit still long enough for a 3D cast.
I take multiple impressions of the child’s hands or feet, and then work on the best prints from the session.
The cast itself is made from Stonecast Plaster to ensure that your memory is kept safe and protected as long as possible.
Turn around time for each cast, from impression to delivery, is 4-6 weeks.
